Toddler Killed in Gulf Freeway Pickup Truck Accident

While Houston car accident attorneys are used to being exposed to fatal motor vehicle accidents, one involving a child or toddler is always arresting. On Sunday evening in Dickinson, an 11-month old child died and three others were injured in an accident.

The wreck happened at about 6:30 p.m, on the Gulf Freeway near the FM 517. A pickup truck driver lost control of his vehicle and crashed into an outside retaining wall. A motorcycle that was carrying one passenger was unable to avoid the crashed truck, and smashed into the truck that was blocking lanes of traffic.

The infant and the truck driver were most severely injured, and were going to be airlifted to a nearby hospital. The helicopter that was supposed to transport them broke down and was stalled on the freeway, and the two had to be transported by ground. Two additional people were also taken to the hospital, and the 11-month old toddler died after reaching the hospital. The toddler may have survived if the helicopter had been able to transport the girl more quickly, which is what adds to the tragic nature of this accident.

The cause of the accident is as of yet unknown. Alcohol consumption is often suspected when a car accident occurs, but since the accident occurred early in the evening, authorities think this is unlikely.
