Motorcyclist killed in South Houston Crash
A winning Houston automobile crash injury attorney knows that motorcycle drivers and riders are at higher risk for injuries and fatalities if they are involved in an accident. Motorcycles are much more exposed than are cars or SUV’s, and even if a rider is wearing a helmet, it cannot always prevent a catastrophic outcome.
Last night in La Marque, a motorcyclist died after an accident in the 2200 block of FM 519. According to La Marque police Sergeant Shawn Spruill, a woman driving a Ford Taurus failed to yield the right away when she was making a left turn. She pulled in front of the motorcycle that Mark David Jasek was driving. His motorcycle collided with the unexpectedly turning Taurus, and he was thrown from his bike. Police pronounced him dead at the scene of the accident at 10:21 p.m.
Jessica Gwen Taylor was also cited for not having automobile insurance. Formal charges against Taylor have not been released by the La Marque police department, and it is unknown whether Taylor was driving under the influence of alcohol, which is often the case in late night weekend accidents.
The specific cause of death for Jasek has not been determined, and it is also unknown whether he was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident. Texas law does not mandate that adults wear a helmet when operating a motorcycle, but to prevent injuries in the event of an accident, it is highly recommended by Houston car accident attorneys as well as Houston public safety authorities.
