Away From The Courtroom

Joe Stephens grew up in a small town in Oklahoma. His dad delivered gasoline and his mom was a school teacher who taught him how to work hard. He worked his way through school in the Oklahoma oilfields, and later went to law school in Houston. His older brother, a legendary lawyer, mentored Joe by allowing him to participate in big trials right out of school. He also let Joe try the small cases, so Joe tried 20 cases his first 2 years out of school. Since then, Joe has tried over 150 cases, most for working people or families. Many of his cases have garnered statewide and national attention such as the infamous Clara Harris case, the woman who ran over her husband because he was  cheating on her. Many of his  trials have been featured on the news, and Joe has been asked by all the networks, ABC, Fox, NBC, CNN to speak about his cases referenced on this site, as well as about current legal topics that interest the public. He has been featured or quoted  many times in The Houston Chronicle, The San Antonio Express, The Texas Lawyer, Verdict Search, The Texas Reporter  and The National Law Journal.

Family Matters to Joe

Joe understands the importance of having the ability to support a family. He and his wife Tess raised triplets.

 Now, they are grown:

When Joe takes your case, regardless of the size, he knows what a bad injury or tragic death can do to a person and how it can affect a family. Nothing is more valuable than you and your family. Joe makes sure you get every dollar you deserve.

Joe has received the highest accolades a lawyer can receive. He is a certified specialist in the field of personal injury law by the state of Texas. That means he has tried a lot of cases and has passed additional exams showing his competence in this field. He has also been board certified by the National Board of Trial Advocates, which means that he is nationally accredited to try civil cases in the courtroom. Fewer than one (1) percent of all lawyers in the country have these two certifications. He has also been chosen by his peers to receive several awards and honors. This includes being chosen as a Texas Super Lawyer every year for the past 17 years. Fewer than 100 lawyers out of the 96,827 lawyers in Texas have been selected for this many years. Independent rating service AVVO rates him 10/10 and another independent rating service gives him the highest rating in ethics and competency that it can give, an AV rating. His peers have chosen him as one of the TOP 100 Litigators (courtroom lawyers) in America.
