Head on Collision Kills 4 in Wise County

Early Saturday morning, at about 3:15 a.m. a head on collision occurred on FM730, a rural highway, in Wise County. Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper Lonny Haschell said the accident occurred about six miles northeast of Decatur. The driver of a Ford F-350 pickup truck heading northbound on the FM 730 saw a Ford Mustang approaching him going the wrong way on the two-lane road. The drivers of both vehicles tried to swerve and avoid hitting each other, but ended up colliding, hitting each other head on.

There were four passengers in the Mustang, who were all declared dead at the scene. The driver of the Mustang was airlifted to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth and was being treated for serious injuries. The driver of the F-350 truck was wearing a seatbelt, and was taken to Wise Regional Health System where he was treated for minor injuries.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation, and the names of the injured and deceased parties have not yet been released. It has been reported that some of the passengers in the Mustang were teenagers.

Although head on collisions are statistically the most deadly types of accidents, wearing a safety belt is still the single most effective preventative measure both drivers and passengers can take when it comes to preventing injury.
