1 Fatality in Southeast Houston Hit-and-Run Car Accident
Despite repeated press and entreaties from a good car wreck lawyer in Houston, suspects continue to try to flee from the police when they have committed a crime. As Houston car accident attorneys have warned, suspects on the run very rarely escape police investigation. Even if it takes a couple of days for the HPD to track them down, they are usually found.
A driver responsible for a fatal hit-and-run accident in Southeast Houston late last night fled from the scene of the crime, escaped on foot, and is currently still at large.
The fatal accident took place at about 11 p.m. Tuesday night. The Houston Police department received a call about a suspicious vehicle parked in the 3900 block of Hamilton. When officers arrived to investigate, the saw two men sitting inside a gray Buick LeSabre.
The officers told the occupants of the car repeatedly to exit the vehicle. The passenger finally got out of the car, but the driver then sped off. The officers took the one suspect into custody and radioed for backup to pursue the fleeing driver. The officers at the scene did not go after the fleeing man.
The runaway Buick LeSabre ran a red light near the intersection of Dowling at Cleburne, and crashed into a Nissan Altima carrying a driver and two passengers. An officer witnessed the approach of the Buick LeSabre, but was unable to stop him before he crashed into the Altima.
A female passenger in the back seat of the Altima was killed at the scene of the accident. The driver and front passenger were taken to the nearby Ben Taub hospital and reported to be in stable condition. The identity of the slain woman has not been released, and is pending verification by the Harris County Institute for Forensic Sciences.
The LeSabre driver is still at large. He was apparently either uninjured or minimally injured, because he fled from his wrecked vehicle and escaped on foot before officers arrived and were able to apprehend him.
