Honda, one of Japan’s biggest car exports and on of the most popular car makes in the United States is recalling about 1.5 million vehicles in the U.S. The company says that the recall is to update the software on vehicles with automatic transmissions to decrease the possibility of transition damage.
On Friday, Honda released a report that said without this transmission change and update, the existing transmissions secondary shaft bearing may be damaged when the car is shifted too quickly. This tends to happen when drivers try to dislodge the vehicle from mud or snow and accelerate quickly in order to do so.
Honda says that despite there being no injures or deaths caused because of the transmission problem, that it is still important to follow through with the recall. The company plans to begin sending recall notifications to customers on August 31st. The recall will affect some 2005-2010 4-cylinder Accord, 2007-2010 CR-V and the 2005-2008 Element vehicles.
